[OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
An early shot of the wharf. This would undergo major developments in the years to come. So a snap for posterity.
This junction was constructed bit by bit as the money was not forthcoming in the early years. It wasn't until the boom of 1953 that the company finally imported enough supplies to improve coal production which led to a rolling effect down the industry daisy chain.

As you can see here, the coke deliveries are now on their own. And there are also further plans for a throughpass in the future, despite the limited amount of space being given. We had no choice but to squeeze it in between the station and the coke oven. We will see how this goes.
A random shot of the Oxygen Furnace, which only produces a meagre 30 tonnes of slag, despite having 3 out of 4 supplies being sent to the furnace. This steeltown mode is really testing the companies connectivity.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
With business booming from all the newly connected industries and from the income generated we can afford better locomotives which are more suitable for long-distance traveling. Prior to this game, I would seldom choose to transport something across a 512 map just to connect them together. But with this Steeltown setting, at least the goods production and receiving will help to cover the infrastructure costs.
The metalworks now have a dedicated Engineering Supplies station while the rest of the platforms are used for receive and supply. Nevertheless, with one eye on the future, we might have to increase the platforms in the future.
Unfortunately, our potash mine has caused some annoyed people in the town of Fercé. So far, we are not in need of building and passenger services, so I will just let them be, hopefully, the income generated and jobs created will make them happier.
Huanne-Montmartin Bulk Transfer is also undergoing a major facelift as we are finally in need of ferrochrome and also rubber, while exporting chlorine and potash. Potash is actually quite a profitable cargo to transport, they are generating 40k per trip.

Unfortunately, all these new constructions require the usage of wood and passing through respectable wooded areas, hence the local authorities are appaled at our company's wanton neglect of the environment.
Adding salt to the wound, I mean making acid, chlorine and sodium chloride. The company finally expanded into the only chlor-alkali plant on the whole map. This factory receives salt from at least three sources whilst supplying the by products. I'm expecting that this station will increase in size soon.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
We managed to catch the carbon black/sulphur express on its way to the Tyre Factory. Despite having 2 gung-ho Coal Mines, the amount of coal tar and sulphur is minimal. I can't even separate them into individual trains for the purpose. And this is in my 10th year of servicing the Coke Factory.
Remoulin's Chlor-Alkali Plant having all 4 trains in service, this is one of the better-producing plants as it only requires salt and is proving three other products from it, inclusive of acid, chlorine and sodium hydroxide. Although in reality, I'm not too sure how safe is it to live within and around this area.

Arrrgh! My indecisiveness has struck again. Having seen too many straight lines in the last game, I decided to go organic for this current game. Actually, maybe it's just me, but TerraGenesis even with mountainous and very rough selected, is still giving me a lot of flatlands. So I went back to the original and gave it an arctic setting for some snow.
Luckily for my new company in this uncharted territory found three collieries within connecting distance of a coke oven. Despite that, the introduction of three diesel engines brought the company deep into deficit. But once the coal trains start to deliver, we were back in the black.
EE10000 is being used for coal deliveries. It was the most affordable diesel engine. Although I have a fine pick of any steam engines, I feel that this game is more suited for diesel.
Crosswaithe Coke Oven at the start of the 1960s. The company only had enough cash to build a 3-platform station.

Briercliffe Furnace is the new connected location, for all the coke produced by the Coke Oven. At the same time, we are identifying the limestone and iron ore quarries for future connection.

The Glass Works. Although most of the line is snaking through the mountains and along the gradient, deliveries are slightly delayed and there are areas in which only a single lane is being run.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Currently, started a new 1024x512 map with Warhammer 40K names. Actually, it's a testing map (albeit non-scientifically), to try to get vehicles as the end product, slowly working my way from across the map. Trying to get all industries connected and also all the towns.
First up, how many coal mines do you need? At the start, I managed to get 3 Coal Mines to supply one Coke Factory. You might be thinking that it is overkill but statistically it isn't. One Coal Mine isn't going to cut it especially for the coal tar and sulphur by-products from the Coke Factory. Even with 3 Coal Mines, it still wasn't feasible to transport the coal tar at all. Right now, after 10 years into the game, I managed to increase the production at the 3 Coal Mines to Gung-Ho (averaging 900 tonnes/coal mine), and that barely eked out only 190,000 litres of coal tar and 190 tonnes of sulphur. But for coke, it is already at 1100-1300 tonnes on average.
So my take-home message for Coal Mines: Try to connect as many as possible to one Coke Factory. And this Coke Factory must be near a Carbon Black Factory and a Tyre Factory, plus if possible, to supply engineering supplies to each Coal Mine too. And make sure they are at least 7 tiles long. In my two previous games, I messed up by creating shorter stations due to the financial limitations early-game, but soon I realise that we are not limited by that factor as the game progresses.
My trick with the enginnering supplies, is to transfer them at the Coke Factory and let them be picked up by the unloading coal trains to be transported back to their respective coal mines.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Okay, now that we have slowly progressed into a much stable economy (after 10 years in-game), the production values at all Coal Mines have increased to 1200-1300/coal mine. This finally allowed us to transport coal tar and sulphur respectively.
Then we move on to the next part of the production following the supply of Coke to the Blast Furnace. For this Furnace, we need Iron Ore and Limestone to complete the process to get pig iron, cast iron and slag. This is slightly easier than the Coal Mines. In order to get a good production, we only need two Iron Ore Mines and 1 Limestone Mine producing at enhanced/gung-ho levels. The important supply here is iron ore. We need that to push for the by-products coming out from the Blast Furnace. Even with a normal limestone production, we can still churn out a healthy amount of by-products.
Using the same technique as my coal mines, I transfer the engineering supplies at the Blast Furnace, allowing them to be picked up by both the iron ore and limestone trains. The only thing I'm unsure of is how to increase cast iron over pig iron. It seems that pig iron will always be the top producing by-product no matter what is being supplied to the Blast Furnace.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
I have only tested this out potash for the Bulk Terminal, and this is the result that I've got. Further down the road, I will try it with just Food to see whether I will get a similar output. I have only one Potash Mine which is operating at Gung-Ho level, providing 700+ tonnes divided into two trains carrying 486 tonnes each to the Bulk Terminal. Just check out below what is the output of all the other by-products from the Bulk Terminal.
Nevertheless, let's have a look at the quaint Potash Mine with an overlooking passenger train from a nearby connection.
Last but not least, we have the pig iron from the Blast Furnace which is providing my Basic Oxygen Furnace, together with the manganese from the above Bulk Terminal. The quicklime is the same Limestone Ore that is Gung-Ho producing for the Blast Furnace, so basically, we don't need much. I think we just need to maintain the right amount of pig iron and manganese to keep the Basic Oxygen Furnace functioning.

This is just a little context of where the various points are in the posts above. Outside the picture, towards the north of the Coke Factory are the 3 Coal Mines. Iron Ore Mines are near Nekkar Prime and slightly outside of the picture to the left. As for the Limestone Mine, it is just near the branch line at Belial Springs. Sanguin Falls host the Lime Kiln for quicklime production.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Once that particular supply route had stabilized, I moved on towards the next industry. So far, this industry is kind of hard to generate enough products as compared to the rest. The industry I'm talking about is the Sheet and Pipe Mill. On paper, it sounds easy, transporting the carbon steel generated from the Furnace. As for zinc, it is a cycle from the Wharf; supplying zinc while taking pipes generated by the Mill. Acid is also pretty easy since I have a Potash Mine at gung-ho levels. But the production of engineering supplies is so lacking that I need to top it up with engineering supplies from the Wharf. Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve engineering supplies specifically for the Sheet and Pipe Mill?
As for the Chlor-Alkali Plant, it needs at least two Potash Mine supplying enough salt for a stable production. It will be better if you have them at least enhanced or gung-ho levels. As for the second Potash Mine, I declined to send it for export as that might double or triple the generated by-products. A word of advice, your Chlor-Alkali Plant is best suited for a roll-on-roll-off (RoRo) station, as with only one unloading station, you will be picking up 3 by-products or at least 2 products, since Chlorine is no longer needed for exports, unless you don't have potash to export.
Looking at the Wharf, I'm supplying sodium hydrochloride, pipes, and cement, so far so good, it is providing a regular supply of by-products which I can use. Don't forget, RoRo station for this too but I'm having a lack of space, hence part of it is in the RoRo configuration.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Whilst all the industry connections are ongoing, my company was still trying to connect each and every city/town in the game. Here are some of the screenshots. So far, I'm only prioritizing passenger services and also food. Food is only delivered to the bigger hubs, the rest are just with passengers. For town growth, it's a little bit tricky. First of all, try to connect a bigger town to a smaller town, a full load of passengers at the bigger town while only picking up any passengers from the smaller town, once the smaller town is experiencing growth, flip the full load to the smaller town, and unloading at the bigger town so that the bigger town increases in size too. But remember to deselect full load once both towns have grown, so that the station ratings will go up. Food delivery will also speed up the growth of the towns, but it is easier said than done.
Lammas Valley is the first town that I have grown, it will serve as the North East hub in the future.
Saint Calibanheim is located further south away from Lammas Valley, right in the mountains, it will be the Central East hub.
Prism Theta will be the capital of the whole map and its growth will not be limited, I have expanded the roads, unlike the previous towns and cities in which I close the loop for the road system. Right now, despite having a good number of passengers and food, it is stuck at 4000+ inhabitants.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Moving into the second decade, it is time to expand the industry services again, what I have noticed from these subsequent industries is that they are more stable than the previous ones. First up is the Glassworks, requiring only sand and soda ash, apparently supplying both will give you a healthy output of glass.
Another easy industry to connect would be the limestone to the Lime Kiln, for the production of quicklime and farm supplies. For this, I noticed that the farm supplies output is low despite having at least two trainloads of limestone being delivered. Take home message, one limestone quarry = one farm. If you can increase the number of quarry suppling limestone, I think the farm supplies will increase.
Last up, is the Engine Plant. With enough supplies, we can generate 300 tonnes of engines for future purposes, although I have no idea how many vehicles would that translate to. But we will get the information once everything is done.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
An interesting thing to note, despite having two raw materials producing industries next to each other with both accepting engineering supplies, only one of them will receive it. Despite having enough engineering supplies to reach Gung-Ho levels for both industries. Or maybe I'm setting it up wrongly.
Busy day at one of the junctions, just for your information, despite seeing so many tracks here, all of them end up at the same endpoint. Just separating the trains from congesting one single point of entry.

Set up a separate station to transfer your engineering supplies, then run a truck from the station to each industry.Two5Kid wrote: ↑04 Oct 2021 03:51 An interesting thing to note, despite having two raw materials producing industries next to each other with both accepting engineering supplies, only one of them will receive it.
