Routing through waypoint works porly
Why does routing through waypoint with busses work so bad? I have noticed that if you have programmed a certain route for a bus, some waypoints actually get skipped in the list. Now this feature would make sense if a route contains unnecessary waypoints, like several points along a straight road. But as it is now, the routing skips several points that are crucial to my route, and if the bus skips certains points and heads straight for the next one it makes it impossible for itself to reach its goal. Is there something I don't understand about this is system? Frankly, it drives me crazy! And I don't recall I had this problem 15 years ago when I started playing.
I hope I made myself somewhat understandable.

There are waypoints for RVs? Or do you mean a stop with special no unload/load orders?

Re: Routing through waypoint works porly
The problem can not be understood without screenshots or more detailed explanation. It would be interesting if that happens permanently or only on buses? Does it affect all lines or only certain?
I use the route assignment to road vehicles or trams only from station to station. Only with rail vehicles I use it very extensively, because tracks need a lot of costs and space. Therefore, several lines go on the same track. I usually use many signals and waypoints. Especially before and after the branches.

Re: Routing through waypoint works porly
I'll add some screenshots. In screenshot 1 there is kind of an overview of three bigger cities, connected with roads that are "doubled" to create a highway feeling (wider roads with lanes). In screenshot 2 I have zoomed in and there you can also see that i have made the roads being one directional. In both pictures you can see the waypoints, and as you can see in screenshot 2 the bus is closing in on route 4, but it has skipped not only 4, but 5 and 6, and is now heading straight towards route 1 again. In this case it finds it way back, but in other cases it totally messes up the busroute. Is this roaddesign to intricate for the game?Walter1940 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021 17:31 The problem can not be understood without screenshots or more detailed explanation. If you look closely everything makes sense with the directions of the roads, it "should" work.

Re: Routing through waypoint works porly
The final destination is missing. Therefore, the bus rotates back to the first city after the waypoint 6.
In other words, according to your travel list, he should only drive in 2 cities.

Just to be sure if I understand, should the last waypoint be a busstop?Walter1940 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021 20:01 The final destination is missing. Therefore, the bus rotates back to the first city after the waypoint 6.

Re: Routing through waypoint works porly
Yes
You want the 3 cities to connect all together. But in your timetable, nowhere, the city South-West Metropolis appears. Therefore, it is not approached. The waypoints 5 and 6 are useless. You just have to tell the bus in which order he should approach the cities and in between where he should turn.

I have to number you the waypoints as I would set them.

Re: Routing through waypoint works porly
Though I must say the reason South-West does not appear is because in this certain route I dont want it approached at all. That is why point 4 5 and 6 are added, in order for the bus to return from Biggy to Gigancy. In the other approach that you suggested, where all 3 cities are connected, it will sooner or later come to some point where a bus skips a waypoint and wanders off on a random trip in its hunt for next waypoint which becomes impossible.Walter1940 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021 22:17Yes

Sorry, when you posted the screenshots, I have noticed the topic's section. This is definitely not OpenTTD.

Re: Routing through waypoint works porly
I am a bit confused. You don't want to visit the station in South-West Metropolis? Why did you already build a station? If you don't serve this, the passengers will disappear and it will take longer until this route expects again because the city doesn't provide anything.3810down wrote: ↑29 Jul 2021 09:23 Though I must say the reason South-West does not appear is because in this certain route I dont want it approached at all. If you only want to connect these two cities, I don't quite understand the problem. Above all, I don't understand why then the waypoints 4 - 6 should be. The way home is not clear to me. Can you explain that briefly?

Re: Routing through waypoint works porly
The station in South West will ofcourse be connected by other buses with different routes, this was just one bus I used to show my example. Some Buses are to go between South-West and Gigancy, some between Biggy and South-West, and so forth. There is ofcourse no other reason for this other than I want to create the feeling of a more "living" world. I could ofcourse connect all 3 cities in one and the same route as suggested, But then I find it somewhat annoying that this does not work, since I think it should.Walter1940 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2021 11:39I am a bit confused. As you can see in the zoomed in screenshot, point 4-6 serve the purpose to guide the bus directly back instead of it going to South-West. Without these points it will run back to Gigancy via South-West, because of the one-way roads.

Re: Routing through waypoint works porly
It would work with three cities. So I always do it with my routes.
Nevertheless, I can not recognize how the bus should turn left at the crossroads!? It is the one bending only twice right and run through the underpass. Then on the highway he should turn? If that is designed, then it is clear that the bus of this comicized system does not recognize.
